March 2010

England just beat Bangladesh 2 – nil in a test series, after winning something called one day internationals 3 – nil. Captain Cook was in charge, apparently someone called Kevin Pietersen found some touch and a small ginger person called Ian Bell found some balls. I was fairly sure I knew there was some cricket on the telly, Christ – I pay £40 a month to ensure I can watch it, but most of it was on while I was asleep, and I couldn’t be arsed to get sleep deprived for this series. And then I kept missing the highlights. Hey, no worries though, this weekend I can watch four IPL games, for free on ITV 4, whooopeee!

The resemblance is uncanny. Brett Lee, Aussie paceman and part-time crooner, looks a hell of a lot like American actor and director Barry Tubb. Who is Barry Tubb you say? Well, he’s best known by his call sign ‘Wolfman’ in 1980’s classic film Top Gun.

Wolfman first appears in the film in the bar scene, with Tom Cruise’s character attempts to seduce Kelly McGillis singing You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling. See if you can spot him here.

Some heartening news that I didnt expect. ITV has secured UK broadcast rights to the 2010 Indian Premier League cricket competition, to be shown exclusively live on ITV4 and ITV.com. ITV4 and ITV.com will broadcast 59 live, free to air, matches over the 45-day season. Matt Smith and Bollywood actress and presenter Mandira Bedi will be joined by the anal-ist Simon Hughes.
