Michael Vaughan has insisted he was misquoted in an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday, which appeared to claim that the notorious drinking binge in St Lucia, that culminated in Flintoff’s 4am Pedalo excursion, had damaged the side.

The Guardian, however, has posted online an audio excerpt from its interview with Vaughan, proving he did use the term.

Whether or not Vaughan was wrong to say it in the first place (I don’t think he was), denying something that can be proven the other way is a bad move. Should have kept schtum second time round.

Anyway, to business, England are batting first as they look for a series-clinching win over West Indies at Old Trafford.
